Talk (Talcum), weiches, fettig anzufühlendes, phanerokristallinisches Mineral, weiß, grünlichweiß oder gelblichgrau, besteht aus Kieselsäure, Magnesia und Wasser, dient als Maschinenschmiere, in den besten Sorten und als feines Pulver pharmazeutisch allein oder in Mischungen (z.B. mit Salizylsäure, Stärke etc.) zu Streupulvern, als Schminkengrundlage, zum Konspergieren der Pillen. Steatit oder Speckstein ist ein dichtes Aggregat von T., der feinschuppige Topfstein ein Gemenge von T. und Chlorit. Talkschiefer, schieferartiges, aus Talkschuppen zusammengesetztes Gestein.
